• The landscapes of Zeeland
The extensive and flat landscape of Zeeland is the main subject of my paintings.
A lifelong love for farmers' life forms a source of inspiration. In my art it is transformed to a landscape of bright colours, straight lines and large surfaces.
I am always searching for balance and simplicity in my acrylic paintings.
• Abstract landscapes
A number of landscapes are totally abstract and are not based on the observation of one particular spot in the surroundings.
In these paintings the colour-areas are separated and assembled on perspex.
• Landscapes in parts
Some recent landscapes are made of several parts.
Together they form te work of art.
The idea behind this is that you do not take the landscape in suddenly, but fragementary.
• Working-method
The paintings are almost always based on observation. I make photographs or sketches with pencil and colour pencil on location.
In painting I use the palette knife particulary since the last few years.
The point of working with a palette knife is that you get different layers, which remain partly visible.
